All things must pass, as the late George Harrison reminded us; pain and sorrow as well as fame and glory will leave us, either winded or passed out witless or thrashing around on the floor, gasping for breath, or snivelling about how we didn’t really get what we wanted, or deserved, or sitting quietly in the corner, perhaps, with a beer in a glass on a small round table, and a half-smile on the froth-covered upper lip in acknowledgement that we did, after all, get more credit than we deserved.
